“Are there capabilities that could be employed against us in both ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) and a weapons fashion? Absolutely. They are just willing to try things and see if it works,” he said. “They are less risk averse at technical advancement than we are. Those cases, he said, are handed off to the intelligence community to investigate further. He said that in a small number of cases, he has concerns the episodes could be evidence of potential technological advancements. Senators asked Kirkpatrick about the prospect of emerging technologies from foreign countries like Russia and China. “In our research, AARO has found no credible evidence thus far of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology or objects that defy the known laws of physics,” Kirkpatrick said. While much of the public focus is over the possibility of UFOs, Kirkpatrick once again reiterated there’s no evidence of represented extraterrestrial life in the sightings. Kirsten Gillibrand, is the latest that Congress has held over the past year on UAPs as lawmakers pressure the Pentagon to solve the unexplained sightings. Thursday’s hearing, chaired by New York Democratic Sen. “This is in the infrared, this is the heat signature off the engines in a commuter aircraft that happened to be flying in the vicinity of where those two MQ9s were at,” he said. In the second video from South Asia earlier this year, an object flew by two MQ-9 drones, including one that captured video appearing to have a propulsion trail behind it, which Kirkpatrick said was initially believed to be “truly anomalous.”īut he said after they pulled apart the video frame by frame, his office determined that it was a “shadow image.” “It is going to be virtually impossible to fully identify that, just based off of that video,” he said, adding that the hope was as more data was gathered on these episodes, patterns could emerge to help explain the unresolved cases. Kirkpatrick explained that this case was unresolved because there was no other evidence beyond the video. The drone’s camera followed the object as it moved through the sky, coming in and out of the screen. The first video showed a small orb that flew through the camera screen of an MQ-9 drone in the Middle East in 2022. He played video from two of cases that had been declassified, one that had been resolved and the other unresolved. Kirkpatrick outlined to lawmakers how his office is helping the Pentagon and intelligence community to identify emerging foreign technologies, including his role in helping to identify the high-altitude surveillance balloon from China that flew over US airspace in February. “Of those over 650, we’ve prioritized about half of them to be of anomalous interesting value, and now we have to go through those and go ‘How much of those do I have actual data for?’” Kirkpatrick said. Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, told a Senate Armed Services subcommittee Wednesday that the number of cases was up from the 350 reports referenced in an unclassified intelligence report on unidentified aerial phenomena released earlier this year. The US government is tracking more than 650 potential cases of so-called “unidentified aerial phenomena,” commonly known as UFOs, according to the director of the office created last year to focus on the sightings. One of Hogan’s experts testified the benefit to Gawker from the sex tape was $15 million, while another, on behalf of the defendant, told the jury it was just $11,000. The trial also featured less salacious elements, with experts delving into the media business through discussion of digital marketing and web analytics. “I’m an extremist when it comes to that.” Many of those same Gawker hands later took the witness stand to put their journalism in a more flattering light, although Daulerio admitted Hulk Hogan’s penis isn’t newsworthy. “I believe in total freedom and information transparency,” said Denton. Hogan’s attorneys also played depositions conducted with Denton and Gawker staffers, who had to explain tasteless jokes and their boundary-pushing philosophies on what’s appropriate to publish. “The person sitting here under oath is Terry Bollea and I don’t lie under oath,” said Hogan. His many interviews with press outlets, some addressing his sexual boasts and endeavors, became the subject of a heated cross-examination. “It’s turned my world upside down,” he testified about Gawker‘s posting. Hogan, the first to take the witness stand, attempted to separate his public persona from his true and private self. In an era when digital networks have reshaped culture, raising tough questions about sharing and prying in society, the jury got to hear two weeks of testimony in a first-of-its-kind sex tape case where discussions of newsworthiness and decency dominated. K-LOVE Fan Awards Nominees Revealed (Exclusive)īrooke Hogan Defends Dad Hulk Hogan After Reports of Racist Rant If more parties emerged, coalitions across parties would form to elect a speaker and organize committee assignments - just as coalitions form in multiparty legislatures around the world. Legislation introduced in the current Congress, the Fair Representation Act, would require use of multimember districts with ranked-choice voting in most states’ House selections as well as elections for the Senate. So more than one party could represent a district in proportion to their popularity within that large district - just as they do in most advanced democracies. This approach features districts much larger than our current tiny congressional ones - and each elects more than one person, at once, to represent the region. We get to such a system through proportional multimember districts. Until American politics nationalized in the 1980s and 1990s around divisive culture-war issues, they operated more independently within the two major political parties. These six parties reflect the underlying factions - and divides - within the Democratic and Republican parties. They will find a home in either the New Liberal Party or the Growth and Opportunity Party. Many readers who consider themselves centrist might also think of themselves as socially liberal/fiscally moderate or socially moderate/fiscally conservative. That is because there are very few voters in the middle across all issues. (In the meantime, you’ll be stuck comparing yourself to the average FiveThirtyEight staffer. Each party represents a different portion of the electorate, not only ideologically but also by economic class and political engagement. And once you get your results, you can invite friends and relatives to compare your personality to theirs. We’re going to show you how your personality compares with that of the average American. The other thing that makes the Big Five different is it lets you easily compare your score to others’. Every trait is graded on a spectrum, with a few people far out on the extremes and a lot of people in the middle. So, for example, this quiz won’t tell you whether you’re an extravert or an introvert - instead, it tells you your propensity toward extraversion. For each of those traits, you’re graded on a scale from 0 to 100, depending on how strongly you associate with that trait. Instead, the quiz gives you a score on five different traits: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, negative emotionality and openness to experience. (You can read more about it in this article we published last year.) There are a couple of things that make it - and this quiz - different.įirst, the Big Five doesn’t put people into neat personality “types,” because that’s not how personalities really work. It’s a system built on decades of research about how people describe one another and themselves. Meet the Big Five, the way most psychologists measure and test personality. You can take a personality quiz backed by science. But you can do better than those specious - yet irresistible - quizzes. What’s your personality, and what can it tell you about your true self? Those questions have launched a thousand online personality quizzes. Once you’ve taken the quiz, your score will be added to the group average. Its members are taking a personality quiz to see how they compare to the group’s average. Pia, tell us some more about kind of what the arguments are on both sides. And the issue at the Supreme Court was all about purpose and character of the use and whether it was transformative, which is, oh, scary to me because the last time Supreme Court addressed this was 1994. And in, in the Second Circuit Court of appeals, they reversed and said, Nope, it was not a fair use. But later on they, they, he had another reproduction and he did not have permission, and he claimed fair use. Um, the photograph of this famous photographer who took a photo of Prince, and he originally had, had permission through licensing to use the photo for an inspiration in a magazine article. Of course, it started below and in the lower court, um, the Warhol Foundation had one on its fair use claims where Andy Warhol borrowed, I say borrowed in a nice way. So this is a really fun case that is up at the Supreme Court. There is a very exciting case involving the Andy Warhol Foundation and a photographer and the late great singer Prince. So if you haven’t been paying attention, let’s get you up to speed. And I’m looking forward to our discussion because a lot’s been happening lately. Pia: I think you said, I think your tone certainly reflects my, my feelings on the subject. Sara: Think I, I think I said that in a nervous tone, , Pia: I am, I’m not afraid to admit that I am a bit nervous about this case. I keep forgetting, we’re coming up on the 10th anniversary, and this is a really interesting time p to be talking about fair use because as we know, the Supreme Court is addressing transformative fair use right now. And so Fair Use Week is designed to promote and, uh, inform people about that. And so we were discussing how wonderful it would be to set some time aside each year to acknowledge fair use, why it’s significant in our everyday lives, and promote it to everyone so that we can take up the banner and protect this, right? Because I know that it’s an affirmative defense in terms of the Copyright Act, but there are things we can do under fair use, and we, we use fair use every day. I’m truly excited about that, but it is the result of a, a meeting of librarians back in 20 12, 20 13, and we were talking about the significance of fair use and not only how important it is to academics and scholars, but to everyone, to, to artists, to people every day who create content, everyone. Fair Use Week is, first of all, it’s so wonderful that it’s, we’re coming up on a 10 year anniversary in February, 2023. Sara: So if you didn’t know, Pia is a law librarian at the University of Illinois College of Law and a founder of Fair Use Week. I am so excited to bring you the wonderful Pia Hunter. Sara: Welcome to a live recorded episode of Copyright Chat today. In 2013, she led the initiative to create Fair Use Week, an annual celebration that highlights the fair use doctrine and its significance to artists, students, faculty, librarians, journalists, and all users of copyrighted content. Prior to joining the law library faculty, she served as Visiting Assistant Professor and Copyright and Reserve Services Librarian at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where she researched and developed best practices for copyright and fair use for instruction for the UIC campus. from the University of Illinois College of Law and a Master of Science from the School of Information Science at the University of Illinois. This also means more people get a 170 on Quant than on Verbal. This means the top 3% of test-takers receive a 170 on Quant. On the Quantitative Reasoning section, a 170 is a 97th percentile score. Pretty small when you consider that over 1.7 million people took the test in that time! Per the number of Verbal Reasoning test-takers between Jand June 30, 2016, that means fewer than 17,427 test-takers scored a 169 or 170 during that 3-year span. This means that less than 1% of test-takers receive a 170 on Verbal. On the Verbal Reasoning section, we can see that scores of both 169 and 170 are 99th percentile scores. The short answer is “not many.” Of course, the long answer is much more complicated than that!īy checking out the GRE percentile chart, we can get an idea of how many test-takers get a GRE top score. How Many People Get the Highest Possible GRE Score? So the top score on Analytical Writing is a 6. On Analytical Writing, each of your two essays is scored on a scale from 0 to 6. The highest score for each of those sections, then, is 170. Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning are both scored on a scale from 130-170, in one-point increments. The GRE has three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. In this guide, I’ll go over the highest GRE score, how many people get the max GRE score, what the maximum GRE score means for you, and whether or not you need to worry about getting the highest score possible. The scoring scale for the new GRE is a little bizarre, so it can be challenging to determine the top GRE score. |
